About me

My name is Basia. My parents and I immigrated from Poland to the United States when I was six years old. For a long time, I felt torn between the two countries–which one should I call home?

This blog reflects a journey that I embarked on several years go–a journey that can be outlined in three goals:

– To better understand the history and traditions of Poland
– To gain an appreciation for Polish culture
– To connect to my Polish heritage

I created this blog with the hope of sharing with others this journey, one that many of you–even if you are not an immigrant or of a Polish background–may relate to.

What you’ll find here: There already exist so many resources about Polish culture, recipes, travel, and so on. I don’t want to duplicate these–instead, I hope to inject personal anecdotes into my posts that will give you a better picture of the life of a Polish person, both in Poland and as an immigrant of the United States.

I’ll include recipes, but only those handed down to me directly from family. I’ll discuss history, but will include snippets from family stories or discoveries that we’ve made on our travels through the country. I’ll discuss traditions, but will include stories of how my own family has adopted (or adapted) them in the US.

If you’re curious about Poland in any way–the colorful traditions, the sad but heartening history, the resilience of the people–or about the ponderings of an immigrant, I hope you will join me.
